Ashura conference planned in Vienna

Tehran, Nov 11, IRNA – A conference on Ashura is planned to be held in Vienna Austria this weekend.

Slated to be held in German and Turkish on Sunday, November 15, it will be the 4th edition of the conference, the izia.at website reported.
The ILA Youths Group affiliated to the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) World Assembly will organize the event in cooperation with the Imam Ali Islamic Center of Vienna.

It will feature speeches by scholars and thinkers as well as elegies, mourning rituals and a Taziyah (passion play) performance.
Ashura is the 10th day of the lunar Islamic month of Muharram.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the month of Muharram.

Imam Hussein (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya.
They were martyred in the battle of Karbala in the year 680 AD.
