Iran deputy FM: Ex-envoy gone missing in Mina stampede 'alive'

TEHRAN (ISNA)- An Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated that the former Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Rokn-Abadi went missing in Mina deadly crush is still alive.

“Our information suggests that Rokn-Abadi is still alive and we want Saudi Arabia to return him alive,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Countries Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

He further said that Iran has taken no decision on participation in the upcoming Vienna talks on Syria.

The crush took place after two large masses of pilgrims fused at a crossroads in Mina, a few kilometers east of the holy city of Mecca, on their way to participate in the symbolic stoning of Satan in Jamarat.
