Brazil is the 8th largest economy in the world and a rising power in South America. Along with China, Russia, India, and South Africa, Brazil has made BRICS to provide a prospect of a multipolar world.
Senior Brazilian economic ministers in the entourage seems to seal the development of trade with Iran, boosting further Iran’s ties with other South American nations as well. Brazil is the sole Iranian trade partner in the South American region, with trade balance between two countries exceeding $1.6bn. Brazil is major exporter of meat, sugar and maize; it imports Iranian carpet, petrochemical products and raisins.
Brazil has taken moderate positions about global developments, notably their condemnation of Israeli 2013 strikes in Gaza and ISIL terrorist acts in Iraq and Syria. It also supported nuclear talks between Iran and 5+1, and even sent its foreign minister to Tehran following the JCPOA. Rouhani’s meeting with President Dilma Rousseff on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York provided new horizons in economic and political relations of the two countries.
