Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA – The nuclear agreement that was reached in July will go into effect in three days, US Secretary of State John Kerry said during his visit to Indiana University.

Excerpts from Kerry lecture on Thursday follows:

'The United States leadership has been fundamental and essential in bringing together seven nations to conclude this historic agreement with Iran. Now that agreement was reached in July, and it will go into effect in three days.

Now, this agreement came together as a result of tough diplomacy that extended over two presidencies, and we began with sanctions but sanctions were a means, not an end.

Only by direct negotiations with support from a broad array of partners – including Russia and China, by the way – were we able to convince Iran’s top officials to accept the severe limits on their nuclear program. And we are moving now to the implementation stage, and it is essential that we will maintain our vigilance, our unity of approach, and our common purpose.'

Iran and P5+1 reached a nuclear agreement on July 14 which is known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The JCPOA imposes some restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for removal of illegal anti-Iran sanctions.
