TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s permanent envoy to the UN has told Legal Committee meeting on Monday rising number of foreign terrorists provides a source of grave concern for NAM member states.


Gholamali Khoshroo told the United Nations General Assembly’s Legal Committee that NAM member states including Iran expected to see the international community intervenes through effective measures to end the influx of foreign ideological fighters to Iraq and Syria; “NAM officially rejects any threat to its member states under whatever pretext or fighting terrorism, and emphasizes that terrorism should not be mistaken for legitimate fight against the occupation and colonialism; the inhumane conduct of the occupation forces should be condemned as the most flagrant examples of terrorism,” said Khoshroo to the Committee meeting.

“Using coercion by occupationist regimes against native movements to emancipate their lands from under occupation, which is in line with vindication of their inalienable rights, should be strictly condemned,” added the permanent envoy.

“Terrorism is not affiliated with any specific nationality, ethnicity, or religion or region, and the NAM members roundly reject any threat or measures against its member states through labeling them as ‘state sponsors of terrorism;’ NAM deems all terrorist acts as violation of international and human laws and condemns all its forms and manifestations,” Khoshroo emphasized.

Iran’s permanent envoy also voiced ‘grave concerns’ on behalf of NAM member states for rising influx of foreign terrorists to target countries to perpetrate terrorist acts, calling all governments to address the issue in line with their commitments provisioned by the international relations law; “NAM strictly entreats all governments to eschew provision of support of any sort (political, financial, and spiritual) to terrorist groups; the call also includes the demand that they should not allow terrorists use the rights and privileges of seeking asylum, or they should not allow political motives stymie the legal procedure of extradition of terrorist fighters,” he told the meeting.

“Effective fighting against terrorism entails attending, by all governments, to their responsibilities to fight terrorism, through facilitating prosecution and extradition of terrorists; it is also imperative for governments to abandon their support or training in their soils or soils of other countries for terrorists,” he concluded his address.
