Iran condemns terrorist attacks in Ankara

10 Oct 2015 - 22:29

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham condemned the Saturday twin blasts in the Turkish capital of Ankara as a terrorist action.

"The terrorist blasts in Ankara which resulted in death and injury of a large number of innocent people caused regret and sorrow," Afkham said on Saturday.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman extended Iran's condolences to the Turkish government and nation on the sad occasion, and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims.

At least 86 people were killed and 186 others were wounded when two bomb explosions happened in a metro station in Ankara.

The target appears to have been a march calling for an end to the violence with the Kurdish separatist group, the PKK.

The pro-Kurdish HDP party was among those calling for Saturday's rally for "peace and democracy", which was due to start at 12:00 local time.

An HDP rally in the city of Diyarbakir was bombed in June, ahead of general elections.

Turkey is holding another election next month.
