Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has offered his condolences on the martyrdom, in Syria, of Brigadier General Hossein Hamedani, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
In a message on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the "veteran, friendly and hardworking” combatant had spent his youth defending the country and the Islamic establishment.
The Leader added that Hamedani spent the final years of his life safeguarding the sanctity of holy shrines in confrontation with ruthless and anti-Islam Takfiris and gave his life in that honorable path.
Ayatollah Khamenei said all troops serving in Iranian Armed Forces, particularly the IRGC, long to be martyred in the path of God Almighty.
The Leader extended his condolences to Hamedani’s family and friends as well as the IRGC forces.
The IRGC announced in a statement on Friday that Hamedani had been killed by Takfiri Daesh terrorists during an advisory mission on the outskirts of the Syrian city of Aleppo the night before.
The Syrian military has been fighting the terrorist groups for over four years. Iran has been offering Syria military advice in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists..
Since March 2011, about 250,000 people have lost their lives and millions more been displaced by the bloody turmoil in Syria.
