65,000 cord blood samples storage in Iran: Royan Inst.

Tehran, October 10, The Iran Project – The director of the Royan's Cord Blood Bank says over 65,000 umbilical card blood samples are stored in Iran which is unprecedented in whole region.

Dr. Morteza Zarabi  the managing director of the umbilical cord blood bank of the Royan Institute made the remarks in the annual congress of the cord blood bank headquarters' officials and correspondents across the country in Tabriz.

He also noted the current 23 Royan's provincial headquarters in Iran, reiterating that 3 more branches will be inaugurated by the end of Iranian year.

"In order to raise the patients' survival chance, we largely pursue to expand the bank's blood samples and to provide the stem cell samples needed for the transplantation centers in Iran," Zarabi added.

He also went on to say that the Royan cord blood bank plans to transfer the stem cell technology to the neighboring countries.

Royan Cord Blood Bank was founded in 2005 to take steps to obtain sustainable health in Iran. It also takes the advantage of a large group of Iranian Immunologists, Hematologists and Oncologists.
