TEHRAN (ISNA)- Secretary General of Iranian Red Crescent Society Ali-Asghar Ahmadi said that 247 bodies of Iranian Hajj pilgrims killed in Mina deadly crush are still in Mecca.
“Iran will not accept missing of even one pilgrim,” he said in a meeting with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) representative office in Tehran Olivier Martin.
“Besides all consequences of Mina tragedy, what is unacceptable for Iran is missing of some Iranian pilgrims, and Saudi Arabia needs to give response to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) about this subject,” he said.
It is still difficult to identify some of the bodies after 11 days of the disaster, Ahmadi said.
Martin, for his part, offered condolences to Iran over the tragic incident and said the ICRC is ready for cooperation with Iran in this field.
The crush happened on September 24 after two large masses of pilgrims fused together. Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization puts the death toll from the crush at around 4,700 people, including 464 Iranians.Saudi Arabia says around 770 people have been killed.
