29 Sep 2015 - 15:44

Seven people have been killed in a bomb explosion at a busy commercial district in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi officials said three people were also injured in the incident, where an explosives-laden vehicle was blown up at a garage in Sadoun Street of central Baghdad late on Monday, Arabic-language al-Sumaria satellite television network reported early on Tuesday.

In addition to the seven people, a civilian was killed and seven others were injured when a car bomb exploded in Baghdad’s eastern neighborhood of Betawin.

Another civilian also died and four others were injured when an improvised explosive device was detonated near a grocery market in the Sayyidah neighborhood of southern Baghdad on Monday.

Moreover, a physical education teacher was killed by a magnetic bomb attached to his car in Baghdad’s Hayy al-A’amel district.

A security source, requesting not to be named, also said gunmen sprayed a car with bullets north of the city of Baqoubah, located about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Baghdad, on Monday, killing all four members of a family.

Two civilians were also killed and six others injured as a bomb attack struck Hayy Ur neighborhood of the Iraqi capital on Monday evening.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks. However, Iraqi officials usually blame such assaults on the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq says a total of 1,325 Iraqis were killed and another 1,811 wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in August.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Daesh began its march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014. Army soldiers and Popular Mobilization Units have joined forces and are seeking to take back militant-held regions.
