TEHRAN (ISNA)- Chilean embassy in Iran would resume its routine activities in Iran in the near future after 35 years.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his Chilean counterpart Heraldo Muñoz discussed reopening Chilean embassy in Tehran and expanding bilateral ties in different fields, including agriculture, as they met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly annual conference.
Heraldo Muñoz said his country is willing to expand political ties with Iran and reopen its embassy. His suggestion was welcomed by Iranian foreign minister.
The two countries’ ties strained in 1973 and they cut diplomatic ties in 1980.
The 70th session of the UN General Assembly is underway at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Diplomats attending the session discuss a broad range of crucial issues, including human rights, disarmament, nuclear safety and global terrorism.
