Iran, Russia discuss expansion of oil, gas ties

TEHRAN Sept. 22 (Shana) – Iran’s Minister of Communications Mahmoud Vaezi and Russian Ambassador in Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan met on Tuesday during which they exchanged views on furthering of bilateral cooperation including in oil and gas industries.

“President Hassan Rouhani has stressed that in the post-sanctions era and regardless of the peripheral developments, Iran shall increase it economic, political, industrial, and security ties with the neighboring Russia,” Vaezi said.

Referring to the existing relations in banking, industry, oil, and gas projects, he said there are also vast areas of cooperation in trade, science, defense, and culture which can be developed specially by the private sector.

The Russian envoy said he will convey the minister’s remarks to the responsible authorities in Moscow and hoped the Joint Commission between the two countries will attain positive results under chairmanship of Vaezi.

Last week, Iranian deputy petroleum minister for international affairs and commerce said Russia’s second major oil and gas company Lukoil is ready to enter into an initial agreement with Iran in the areas of enhanced oil recovery, exploration and crude oil extraction, The Russian giant’s CEO Vagit Alekperov met Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh on Wednesday during which he said Lukoil is ready for bilateral cooperation in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), and Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) with Iran, Amir-Hossein Zamani-Nia told Shana.
