Iran’s Rouhani warns of spillover of regional woes

7 Sep 2015 - 15:48

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani warns that the consequences of regional problems will affect the entire world, urging collective cooperation to solve global issues, particularly the spread of terrorism.

“In today’s world, regional problems will not remain in that region and their effects will immediately come to light in other parts of the world,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomir Zaoralek in Tehran on Monday.

He added that interference of some countries in internal affairs of others and an “instrumental approach” to violence and terrorism are two main problems which would pose challenges both to the region and the world.

He said powerful and influential countries in the region should not impose their views on regional states and meddle in their domestic affairs.

The Iranian president noted that discrimination, injustice, racial, religious and ethnic humiliation as well as disappointment are among reasons that the young people are joining terrorist groups.

“If all countries have equal rights, interference in internal affairs of countries is condemned and all [states] join hands to fight terrorism … the solution to the ongoing problems will not be far away,” Rouhani pointed out.

The Iranian president further pointed to deep-rooted and great potential of Iran and the Czech Republic in economic, scientific, political and tourist fields and said the two countries should prepare the ground for their private sectors to play a more active role to serve the common interests of the two countries.

The Czech foreign minister, for his part, said the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in July would help the Islamic Republic to play a more active role in regional and international developments.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – finalized the text of a nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

Zaoralek said his country believes that no political solutions can be found to terrorism without Iran’s participation.

In order to solve problems, all countries should oppose violence and terrorism and insist on dialog, logic and respect for all people without any bias, he concluded.
