Several acts of sabotage defused: Intelligence minister

Tehran, Sept 1, IRNA – Intelligence Minister Hojatoleslam Mahmoud Alavi said that his ministry has defused several acts of sabotage planned by enemies' intelligence services.

Speaking at the 18th meeting of Assembly of Experts, he said that the Intelligence Ministry has deterred enemies' plots for making unrest and explosions in various parts of the country.
Many of the enemy elements were arrested or killed in Intelligence Ministry operations, the official noted.
He said that the Intelligence Ministry has done its best to prevent Takfiri groups or enemy intelligence services to penetrate into Iran or recruit Iranian citizens for sabotage and spying operations.
The 18th meeting of Assembly of Experts started its deliberations here on Tuesday.
The meeting would continue until Wednesday evening.
Members of Iran's Assembly of Experts are slated to meet Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The Assembly of Experts (also Assembly of Experts of the Leadership) of Iran, is a deliberative body of Mujtahids (Islamic theologians) that is charged with electing and removing the Supreme Leader of Iran and supervising his activities.
Members of the assembly are elected from lists of candidates by direct public vote for eight-year terms. The number of members has ranged from 82 elected in 1982 to 88 elected in 2006. Current laws require the assembly to meet for at least two days every six months. The current chairman of the Assembly is Mohammad Yazdi, being elected on 10 March 2015.
