Tehran, Aug 25, IRNA – The Turkish government has closed two border points of Sero and Razi in west Azarbaijan province due to security measures, an Iranian official said on Tuesday.
Talking to IRNA, Director General of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO), Mohammad Javad Atrchian, said the move has made some difficulties for people residing in border areas.
Atrchian reiterated there is no information when Turks will reopen the border points.
He said that Bazargan border point is open and there is no problem facing the border point.
On Aug 20, director general of border security at Iran's Interior Ministry said Turkey has promised to provide security for Iranian tourists and their vehicles in its eastern parts.
Majid Aqababaei said that one Iranian citizen lost his life during nine attacks on Iranian vehicles in bordering Turkey.
Some of the vehicles were set on fire and some were destroyed, he added. Iran is seeking restitution of compensation for the damages to the vehicles.
The official added that due measures will be taken in cooperation with Turkish authorities to prevent similar attacks in future.
He also cautioned Iranian tourists not to travel on road in Turkey if possible and try to make their journey at day time.
Eight Iranian trucks and one bus were attacked during which the bus driver was killed.
