Moscow, August 17, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday dismissed the US alleged visit to Moscow of General Qassem Soleimani, saying the allegation was politically motivated, serving US propaganda campaign.
Addressing a joint press conference, Lavrov rejected the US allegation that Moscow violated the UN Security Council resolution by ignoring the sanctions on issuing visa for the Iranian commander and said, 'Washington has perpetrated violations about the UN Security Council resolutions times and again.'
On the US alleged visit of General Soleimani to Moscow, an instance of violation of the UN Security Council resolution, Lavrov said the US officials have made baseless speculation and 'I do not make any comment on the baseless speculation of the US officials.'
Noting that the US has perpetrated violations about the UN Security Council resolutions, Lavrov said, 'Washington has ignored the UN Security Council sanctions system and a recent instance was it handed over to a Middle Eastern state four prisoners of Guantanamo Bay placed in the UN Security Council sanctions list as convicts held at Guantanamo prison.'
The Russian Foreign Minister said the UN Security Council and the special sanctions committee of the Council were not informed of the release of the individuals, whereas those freed had travelled to Afghanistan and got ready again for fighting. At a time when we implement the UN Security Council resolutions, the US brings baseless charge against Russia. We should not take stance in reaction to the suspicion of the American officials; rather, we should take realities and evidences into account.'
Meanwhile, Zarif said that many specualtion have been made by the US media over the past week and unfortunately it has become a domestic issue as the US Congress undergoes certain stage for the time being.'
He hoped that in the future there will be less such allegations. 'We have announced times and again that gone is the era of threatening and bullying and the US should adjust itself to the principles of the UN.'
He said that the US Administration has time and again violated the International Law prohibiting use of force and that the US violated the International Law by use of force against Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, the examples of the US violations of the Charter of the United Nations and it has sustained heavy casualties and hefty damages.
