TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A moderate earthquake in Afghanistan was felt across South Asia on Monday, shaking the ground in Kabul, Islamabad and New Delhi.
The epicenter of the magnitude 6 quake was 88 kilometers (54.68 miles) from Feyzabad in Afghanistan, at a depth of 209 kilometers (129.87 miles), the US Geological Survey said.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan at around 3.35 pm, The New Indian Express reported on Monday.
The Hindukush mountain ranges are known to be prone to earthquakes. Tremors were also felt in Srinagar and adjoining areas of JK.
Incidentally, another high intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on Richter Scale hit the Solomon Islands at around 9.42 am today.
