Lawmaker sees more chance for Turkish firms' trade with Iran

9 Aug 2015 - 11:27

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Turkish lawmaker said Iran and Turkey could double their trade exchanges since the country’s companies enjoy better chances for activities in Iranian market comparing with their counterparts.

After the removal of anti-Iran sanctions a large flow of investment into the country will start and foreign companies will try to gain a foothold on the Iranian market, head of the Turkish Center for Strategic Studies, who is also a lawmaker from the opposition Nationalist Movement Party Sinan Ogan told Azeri Trend News Agency.

Turkish companies will also take part in this process, and they have more chances compared to companies from other countries, he said.

“We could implement it earlier, but the sanctions were an obstacle for that,” said Ogan.

He went on to add that one can expect the double growth of trade turnover between Iran and Turkey since Turkey is Iran's “window” to the West.

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz had earlier said that his country is interested in Iran’s economic upturn.

Yildiz said the removal of sanctions against Iran will make changes to world’s oil prices from which Ankara will benefit.

He added that Iran is an influential power in international and regional equations.

Turkish minister’s remarks came after finalization of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal would subject the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.
