TEHRAN, Aug. 03 (MNA) – A Conferring council is to be headed by Iran’s First Vice President Es'hagh Jahangiri to deliberate about capital relocating plan.


Iran’s First Vice-President Es’hagh Jahangiri is scheduled to head a meeting, on Monday in the afternoon, to weigh the ups and downs of relocating Iran’s political capital.

Earlier in December 2013, an act of relocating the capital was passed by the Majlis with 110 yeas, 97 noes and 10 abstentions, but the details and the procedures to go through the move is still left undone.

Then Iran's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told the reporters about President Rouhani’s somewhat agreement with the plan as the subject was as old as 20 years in ministries of Housing and Interior Affairs.

Though the lawmakers gave the thumbs-up to a proposal to relocate the capital from Tehran, the finances of the project are still unknown, said Rahmani-Fazli at that time.

On the heat of the debates in Majlis, Some media reported that the Rouhani administration is against the proposal but it finally received the approval by the MPs.

Iran’s Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari also dismissed the proposal as “not viable,” citing problems such as covering the financial costs of relocating the capital and questioning the viability of transferring all government institutions and commercial hubs from Tehran.

With a population of nearly 8.3 million and more than 14 million in the wider metropolitan area, Tehran is the largest city in Iran as well as in Western Asia.
