MP: Improvement of ties will defuse tensions

2 Aug 2015 - 13:29

Tehran, Aug 2, IRNA – An Iranian parliamentarian believed that 'improvement of Iran’s international relations via economic and trade transactions will relieve some part of domestic and overseas tensions'.

In an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Iraj Nadimi who is a member of Majlis Economic Committee, said that “some are trying to introduce Iran as an isolated country in a bid to pretend they do not need Iran.'

Nadimi added there is no ban on visit of foreign trade delegations to Iran. He said the only important issue in transactions with foreign trade delegations is profit and loss, adding religious and political matters are off the subject. Foreign trade delegations’ trip benefits Iran, even if no agreement is signed, opined the lawmaker, justifying it improves Iran’s ties with the world.

The delegations’ visit to Iran gives them a chance to change their views on the country.

Trade balance is of high significance, i.e. exports should increase in tandem with the rise of imports, he mentioned.

Nadimi called for adding intermediate and capital commodities to Iran’s import-bound consumer goods, with the aim of creating jobs and promoting exports.

Previously, trade delegations heading to Iran were restricted to certain countries including Latin America and sometimes Iran’s investment in a foreign country was fruitless as Iran launched automotive sites abroad which not only had no benefit for Iran, but also damaged auto industry in Iran.

He said, “At present, given that Iran embraces the technology of the world major carmakers to develop our auto industry, more jobs will be created, production quality will enhance and fuel consumption will be managed.

“Economic sanctions cost Iran $300-400 billion annually as they cut imports and exports.”

Iran’s industry is mostly dependent on Western Europe. Therefore, Iran should develop its relations first with Western European countries.

Foreign trade delegations’ visit from Iran should help prevent layoffs and boost production in semi-active industries. Foreign capitals should help create industries to boost resistance economy so that Iran imports more than it exports.”
