Ranking negotiator: US officials' remarks on N. agreement meant to soothe opponents

30 Jul 2015 - 15:27

TEHRAN (FNA)- Director General for Political Affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry and nuclear negotiator Hamid Baeidinejad downplayed the significance of the recent comments made by the US officials on the nuclear agreement with Iran, saying they are aimed at domestic consumption.

"The remarks by the western officials are ambiguous comments which are merely uttered for domestic use and therefore, we should say that there is no ambiguity in this (nuclear) agreement," Baeidinejad said in an interview with state-run radio on Wednesday.

He said that the US officials' remarks after inking the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) are meant to clam opponents in the Congress and Zionist lobbies to soothe the internal conditions prevailing over debates on the nuclear agreement in that country.

Iran and the world powers reached a final agreement in Vienna on July 14 to end a 13-year-old nuclear standoff.

A week later, the UNSC unanimously endorsed a draft resolution turning into international law the JCPOA reached between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Now the US Congress and the Iranian parliament have less than 60 days to review the deal to approve or reject its practice.

Under the JCPOA, restrictions will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
