AEOI warns against more western pressure on Iran

5 Jul 2015 - 14:43

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi warned Western powers involved in the nuclear talks with Iran against applying more pressure on the country, saying that Iran's response to it would be severe.

"The other party has tested all types of pressure and if they decide to try the pressures again, Iran's response, as President (Hassan) Rouhani said, will be more severe than what they could imagine," Kamalvandi said on Saturday.

However, he pointed to the progress of the ongoing talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) and emphasized that the differences between the two sides have been narrowed down.

Kamalvandi also described recent meetings between Iranian officials and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano in Tehran as “satisfying”, saying that the two sides urged the need for a specific schedule for removing misunderstandings over Tehran's nuclear program.

Amano paid a one-day visit to Iran on Thursday and met with President Hassan Rouhani.

Amano paid a one-day visit to Iran on Thursday and met with President Rouhani and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani.

"The purpose of the visit was to advance work towards the resolution of all outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear program, including clarification of possible military dimensions," he said in a statement after the trip to Iran.

Amano's visit came as marathon talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (alternatively known as P5+1 or E3+3) are underway in Vienna, Austria, with the purposes of striking a lasting agreement on Tehran's nuclear energy program.
