Afkham: Meeting of Iran, Iraq, Syria FMs to give impetus to tripartite cooperation

24 Jun 2015 - 18:39

Tehran, June 24, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said in Tehran on Wednesday that the meeting of Iranian, Iraqi and Syrian foreign ministers would give an impetus to cooperation among the three countries and help expedite implementation of the agreements inked by the three states.

Afkham told a weekly press conference that the idea of holding the trpartite meeting, where the three foreign ministers will hold talks and decide on common subjects, is valuable and serves as an opportunity for solving the problems facing the three countries and the whole region.

She said, 'As for details and quality of cooperation, let's wait and see what would take place after the meeting (of foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq and Syria).'

Elsewhere in the press conference, Afkham commented on charges raised against Iran that it had entered into talks with Taleban and that envoys of the Taleban had visited Iran and said Tehran's principled stance has always been based on condemning measures of terrorist groups. 'So we consider such allegations as hue and cry.'

She said Tehran wants peace and development in Afghanistan, believing that the Afghan government will overcome obstacles on its way. 'The Islamic Republic of Iran has also announced that is ready to help Afghanistan leave behind the difficult phase and follow the path to peace and development.'
