The 1.5 tons of gold seized aboard a Dubai-bound plane from Ghana at Istanbul’s airport was probably intended for Iran, the Agence France-Presse news agency reports, quoting Turkish media.
An A300 owned by the Turkish ULS Cargo firm was detained due to some missing documents.
Earlier, Turkish media speculated that the plane was actually flying from Algeria, and not to the United Arab Emirates, but possibly to Iran in breach of international sanctions against that country.
