Qom, May 17, IRNA – Senior cleric Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi said on Sunday that the US is now in a weak position in nuclear talks with Iran and it needs negotiations more than Iran does.

Addressing a group of clerics in Qom, he said the economic sanctions imposed on Iran truly indicated the weakness of the enemy.

Referring to the glory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said it is among main responsibilities of Iranian officials to protect the Islamic system.

Officials should not be deceived by various sets of economic sanctions imposed by the enemies, he said, adding that sanctions should not disappoint the officials as they are unable to block the country's move towards development.

Many countries failed to attain development under economic sanctions but Iran proved otherwise, he said.

Iran's economy is a God given gift and for this reason no one should be concerned about economic sanctions imposed by the enemies, he said.

Given chaotic economic, social and political situation in the US, the count down has started for annihilation of the global arrogance and there will beno uni-polar system in the world any longer, he said.

Cases of violation of human rights and suppression of ethnical and religious minorities in the US is on rise in a way that the UN has registered over 300 cases of such violations in the country, he said.

The US has tried all options in its fight against Iran but to no avail, said Ayatollah Shahroudi.

Under wise leadership of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian people have managed to successfully overcome all plots of the enemies, he underlined.
