TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran and South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in political, social and economic fields.

“The MoU covers political, social, economic, financial, banking, agriculture, water and health,” said South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in the 12th commission of the two countries with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

She also said, “We also discussed security, Iran’s nuclear issue, women and family, sports, industries and tourism as well as developments in Yemen, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Syria.”

“We also stressed permanent membership of an African country in the UN Security Council and support for regional and international issues in the Non-Aligned Movement.”

Iran also plans to establish a trade center in South Africa. The two sides also discussed mutual cooperation in mine, tourism, processing agricultural products and exchanging information.

Zarif, for his part, expressed the hope that the two-day talks could pave the way for mutual cooperation between the two countries.

He also said Iran abides by political understanding with South Africa, expressing the hope that the agreements on financial and banking services would bring good results.
