Iran’s national wrestling team has won the 2015 Asian freestyle championship, in another show of might weeks after it claimed the World Cup in the United States.
Three Iranian wrestlers reached the gold-medal contest on Thursday to give Iran the minimum points needed to claim the title on the second day of the tournament in the Qatari capital of Doha.
According o IRIB News, Behnam Ehsanpour, Peyman Yarahmadi and Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian beat their opponents to reach the final matches in the 61, 74 and 97 kilogram categories, respectively.
The first day of the competition saw Iranian wrestlers win two gold medals by Masoud Esmaeilpour and Alireza Karimi while Komeil Qasemi and Younes Sarmasti gained a silver and a bronze respectively.
Iran’s early championship in the Doha games came despite a one-man deficit in the team with Saeid Dadshpour failing to attend the games due to injury.
On April 12, Iran’s wrestling team managed to beat the US outfit to claim the 2015 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup.
