5 May 2015 - 11:20

TEHRAN, May 05 (MNA) – Head of Iran's Fisheries Organization announced the boost in Iran’s fisheries export s to Russia.

Pointing to the devaluation of the ruble and high import tariffs in Russia as two factors to slow process of exporting Iran’s fisheries to Russia, Head of Iran's Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi said the issues were resolved anticipating that large parts of the agreements signed between the two countries in the past would be implemented this year.

“Following the efforts by Iranian government and especially the country’s ambassador to Moscow, Russia reduced tariffs on imports of fishery products to the country since mid-April this year,” Salehi said.

He added that tariffs of between 2 to 7 percent were set for live fish, fresh or frozen fish and fillets which sees a sharp decline from 25 to 30 percent in last year.

Salehi said that the issue would have great impact on the export of fish to Russia.

“We're still at the beginning of the export path to Russia which will require long-term efforts to enhance marketing measures,” Salehi said, expressing hope that Iranian fisheries' export to Russia would reach 10 thousand tons this year.
