US-Iran diplomatic ties unlikely to thaw despite nuclear deal - Iranian FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the Iran-US diplomatic relations are unlikely to change in the nearest future due to skepticism about the United States in Iran.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program is no guarantee that Tehran would establish diplomatic relations with the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated at the New York University Center on International Cooperation on Wednesday.

“It’s too early and too premature to state that,” Zarif said in response to a question about whether Iran would be open to establishing diplomatic relations with the United States if a nuclear deal is reached. “I don’t see that in the immediate future.”
The p5+1 group of countries and Iran are negotiating a deal to ensure the peaceful nature on Iran’s nuclear program that would offer sanctions relief to Teheran.
While the deal would be a breakthrough in Iran-US relations, a lack of trust toward the United States in Iran would prevent re-establishing diplomatic relations right away.
“Skepticism about the United States is widespread in Iran,” Zarif said. “I don’t find that appealing, but it’s a reality.”
A deadline for a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program is set for June 30, 2015, but Zarif said that a deal would most likely be reached prior to that date.
