28 Apr 2015 - 16:53

Tehran, April 28, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Tuesday expressed hope that the new UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania will take constructive steps towards stopping military operations against people of Yemen and said preventing further complication of conditions in Yemen will serve as an important step towards settlement of crisis in the country.

Afkham further commented on Cheikh Ahmed's appointed as new UN envoy on Yemen and wished him success.

She hoped that the new UN envoy will prepare the grounds for start of dialogue among groups and parties of the country.

Pointing to the fact that military invasion of Yemen was a big mistake and miscalculation, Afkham said the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly believes that crisis in Yemen should be settled through political means and based on Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue to form a broad-based government, while avoiding complication of conditions.

The spokeswoman, referring to extensive efforts for immediate shipment of aid and improving human conditions in Yemen, urged the new UN envoy would look into the case.

Saudi Arabia and a number of regional states have conducted air raids on Yemen, destroying the infrastructures of the country and killing innocent people.
