TEHRAN, Apr. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s future relations with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) were discussed during the meeting between Iran’s ambassador to Moscow and SCO Secretary General Dmitry Mezentsev.

In addition to reviewing the SCO’s future plans and expert sessions, Iran’s capacities, as well as the upcoming summit meeting of Shanghai member countries on 9-10 July in the Russian city of Ufa were discussed.

Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Dmitry Mezentsev, while extending his appreciation for Iran’s active presence in the SCO, deemed boosting regional cooperation beneficial to all SCO countries and expressed hope these interactions would lead to strengthening the countries’ economical ties and regional stability and security.

Iran’s ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei, for his part, deemed SCO position on the regional and international developments significant, stressing Iran’s enthusiasm to further boost cooperation with this organization.

The SCO is an intergovernmental organization which seeks to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborliness between the member countries.

It was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran, along with four other countries, currently holds observer status in the organization.

From Tehran's vantage point, SCO is a dual purpose security and economic regional organization that is destined to play a prominent role with respect to the sensitive stability issues.
