Jakarta, April 22, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday urged the world to rise against the menace of terrorism, violence and extremism.
Making the remarks here when addressing the opening of the Asia Africa Conference (ACC), he stressed sanctions against Iran were unjust and illegal.
He said the resistance and persistence of the Iranian nation as well as the high speed of its peaceful indigenous nuclear progress forced other parties to sit at the negotitations table.
He said the 5+1 had to negotiate because they eventually came to the point that threats, efforts to intimidate and tarnishing security could never bring peace and security to the world.
The Iranian president also said that constructive interaction was the only objective Iran perused because it was to the benefit of all world nations.
In his speech, President Rouhani pointed to the spread of terrorism, violence and extremism in the world and said the world should seriously deal with these phenomena.
He urged the global community to try to identify the roots of terrorism in an effort to dry its stems which distracts people to them.
He believed the cultural and economic reasons behind this tendency for violence and aggressive behaviors should become clear.
The president also underlined the need for blocking the financial, political and information support being rendered to terrorist groups.
Asia Africa Conference (ACC) started its work on Wednesday in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia, with participation of around 30 heads of state or government including President Rouhani.
Indoenesia President Joko Widodo opened the conference by addressing the participants.
The 60th Asia Africa Conference is being held to commemorate Bandung Conference which took place in 1955 and laid the foundation stone for Non-Alignment Movement.
President Rouhani addressed the conference on Wednesday morning session and will chair the second session of the conference's six sessions.
