S-300 poses no threats to any country: top general

18 Apr 2015 - 16:18

TEHRAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) – Commander of Iran’s ground forces has said the S-300 missile systems are of no threat to any countries, but Iran will firmly stand against outside threats.

Speaking on the sidelines of the National Army Day parades, the commander of Iran’s ground forces, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan maintained that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is based on deterrence; “we are not after invasion and military aggression; we are just improving our defense capabilities to have sufficient resources to stand against threats.”

“The time span for an idea to reach the production phase used to be very long, but it has been reduced considerably. Once a commander designs an idea for defense, that idea is turned into a product in the shortest time possible,” said General Pourdastan.

Pourdastan also repeated President Rouhani’s statement that the Islamic Republic army supported the suppressed innocents but would never interfere in countries’ capabilities.

Kremlin's press service announced a few days ago Russian President Vladmir Putin has issued a decree to lift the ban on providing S-300 missiles to Iran.

The contract for supplying S-300 missile systems to Iran was signed in 2007, but in 2010 the contract was put on hold under the pretext that it was covered by the fourth round of the United Nations Security Council sanctions against Iran.
