The two Saudi officers who had sexually harassed two teenage Iranian pilgrims at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah have been arrested, a senior Iranian diplomat says.
“The perpetrators behind the sexual assault on two teenage Iranian Hajj pilgrims have been identified and detained and will receive maximum punishment,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, quoted a senior Saudi official as saying on Thursday.
The Saudi official had made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia Hossein Sadeghi in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
“We are awaiting the issue and immediate implementation of a verdict on the most severe punishment for the perpetrators of the inhumane act,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
He further warned that if Saudi officials fail to follow up on the issue and provide complete security and comfort for Iranian pilgrims, Tehran will take a proper decision in that regard.
While performing body search on passengers, Saudi officers allegedly took the 14- and 15-year-old teenagers away citing suspicion, sounded off the alarm at the gate, and subjected them to the immoral behavior.
