TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on Wednesday condemned the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen as a “deplorable adventure”, and called for an immediate peaceful solution to the crisis in the Arab country.
Addressing a meeting of high-ranking judiciary officials in Tehran, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani expressed regret over the recent attacks by Saudi Arabia and its allies on Yemen, and said, “Saudi Arabia’s invasion of Yemen is a very deplorable adventure in the Islamic world.”
The crisis should be resolved as soon as possible through dialog and negotiation, otherwise this clear aggression would not remain unanswered, Amoli Larijani added.
He further expressed the hope that Saudis would change their behavior and stop the bloodshed and aggression on Yemeni men, women, and children.
Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies on March 26 began to militarily interfere in Yemen's internal affairs by launching deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
The death toll in Yemen has been climbing since the aggression began, rising to at least 560 people dead and 1,768 wounded – most of them civilians – the World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday. Around 100,000 people are also said to have fled their homes.
