Iran to pursue sexual abuse of teenage pilgrims in Saudi through diplomatic channels

8 Apr 2015 - 16:31

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran reiterated that it would pursue sexual abuse of two teenage pilgrims in Jeddah Airport through diplomatic channels.

“The Foreign Ministry will seriously and continuously pursue its measures through diplomatic channels until obtaining the intended results,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham referring to the sexual abuse of the two teenage pilgrims.

She also expressed the hope that Saudi officials would pursue the issue, issue verdict and punish the officials in Jeddah Airport.

Afkham added that Iran has officially showed protest against the issue, sent a protest message and summoned Saudi chargé d'affaires and called on Saudi government to speed up measures in punishing these suspects.

Saudi airport officials reportedly separated the two Iranians from other members of their group, who were returning from their pilgrimage, and sexually assaulted them.

Following the summoning, Saudi officials arrested the two suspects after carrying out investigations, and promised that appropriate measures would be adopted.
