Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to do everything possible so that the conflict does not turn into a larger conflict between Arab states and Iran.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The situation in Yemen must not get out of control and place Arab states against Iran in the current conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.
“We are greatly concerned over what is happening in Yemen. The situation should not get out of control and our approach is that it is necessary to stop any use of military force,” Lavrov said during a joint conference with Vanuatu Foreign Minister Sato Kilman in Moscow.
Lavrov emphasized that the conflicting sides need to renew talks on neutral territory.
“It’s already understood that these talks need to be on neutral territory, and that’s why the special representative of the UN Secretary General on the situation in Yemen is being called,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov added that Moscow is ready to do everything possible so that the conflict does not turn into a larger conflict between Arab states and Iran.
“Moreover, we cannot allow the situation to turn into an attempt to start an open conflict between the Arabs and Iran. We will do everything possible so that doesn’t happen,” Lavrov added.
