Bibi vows to prevent Iran-West nuclear agreement

26 Mar 2015 - 15:23

Tehran, March 26, IRNA – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again vowed to do his utmost to prevent a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu reiterated his earlier claims about the ongoing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear work.

“We will continue to act to prevent the emerging [nuclear] agreement with Iran -- an agreement which will endanger us, our neighbors and the world,' said the Israeli premier after meeting with the regime’s president, Reuven Rivlin.

This is while a new round of ministerial talks over Iran's nuclear program is scheduled to kick off on March 26 in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

Netanyahu, whose right-wing Likud party surprisingly won 30 of the 120 parliament seats in last week's legislative elections, also announced his decision to restore ties with the US which have been frayed in recent months over Israel’s stance towards Iran’s nuclear talks.

'We very much appreciate, and will make sure to preserve, our covenant with our close friend, the United States,” he added, according to Press TV.

The talks between the US and Iran are part of broader negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group -- Russia, China, Britain, France and the US plus Germany -- to reach a comprehensive agreement as a deadline slated for July 1 draws closer.

In another gesture of rapprochement towards the international community, Netanyahu said he is not against the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israel extends his hand “in peace” to Palestinians, the Israeli premier claimed.

This is while he had earlier said that he would not allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

“Whoever moves to establish a Palestinian state or intends to withdraw from territory is simply yielding territory for radical Islamic terrorist attacks against Israel,” the Israeli premier had said during his electoral campaign.

Netanyahu is also under fire by rights groups and the international community for his electoral promise to press ahead with settlement construction in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
