TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A recent report released by the statistical office of the European Union (EU), Eurostat, revealed that Iran’s pistachio exports to the EU in 2014 show a rise of 26%, making the country the largest exporter of pistachio to the EU after the United States.

In 2014, Iran exported over €176 million worth of pistachio to European countries, of which €64 million was the pistachio seeds without shell and €112 million was the fruit with shell, Eurostat report indicated.

The report also showed a considerable rise of 84% in Iran’s pistachio seeds (without shell) exports to the EU in 2014, while the export rate for pistachio with shell has shown a 7-percent growth.

Germany is considered as the largest importer of Iranian pistachio, and Spain, France, and Netherlands are among other major importing countries.

The 26-percent growth in Tehran’s pistachio exports to the EU in 2014 comes as the exports had also showed a 13-percent rise in 2013.

According to recent reports, Iran has exported $1.4 billion of pistachio in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2014 - January 20, 2015), an 80 percent rise from $780 million in the same period last year.

Food and agricultural trade accounted for 20.2 percent of the country’s total non-oil trade in the past Iranian calendar year.
