Zarif, Kerry to discuss Iran nuclear talks in Davos

23 Jan 2015 - 11:02

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry will meet in the Swiss city of Davos to discuss Tehran’s nuclear talks.
Zarif who is in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum will have a short meeting with his US counterpart on the sidelines of the conference to discuss the latest developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear negotiations. The top Iranian diplomat is also expected to meet his counterparts from the P5+1 group.

Zarif and Kerry met in the French capital, Paris, last Friday to try to narrow gaps over Iran's nuclear program, in a follow-up to their lengthy meeting in the Swiss city of Geneva on January 14.

Meanwhile, deputy foreign ministers from Iran and the US are set to sit for a new round of talks in the Swiss city of Zurich on Friday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi will lead the Iranian delegation in the two-day talks while the US team will be headed by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman.

Iran and the P5+1 countries - the US, France, Britain, China, Russia and Germany – are in talks to secure a final full-blown deal over Tehran’s nuclear work.

Political directors of Iran and the six states wrapped up their talks in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 18.

Since an interim deal was agreed in Geneva in November 2013, the negotiating sides have missed two deadlines to ink a final agreement.

Tehran and the six countries now seek to reach a high-level political agreement by March 1 and to confirm the full technical details of the accord by July 1.
