Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Prov, Jan 21, IRNA – UNHCR representative in Iran Fatima Abdullah said the generous attitude of Iran towards Afghan refugees for the past three decades is commendable.
Speaking in a ceremony for the opening of the 12-class Mowlavi School in Tabadkan rural district of Mashhad, the UNHCR representative appreciated Iran for generously hosting the largest refugee population in the past 30 years.
She said the Islamic Republic of Iran has had a satisfactory cooperation with UNCHR and has rendered the best services to refugees.
The UN official said during these years Iran has offered the best education services to children of the refugees and foreign nationals.
Ms Abdullah said the best gift for the refugees is rendering high quality educational services as it will remain with them up to the end of their life.
She said access of the Afghan student population living in Iran to proper educational services, as stressed by the UN High Commissioner, is a priority in the Islamic Republic's educational programs.
The UN official said the school which has been built with the cooperation of Germany, Japan, Australia and the European Union with the Commissioner will reduce educational problems for Khorasan Razavi.
Meanwhile, Director General of Refugees Affairs in Khorasan Razavi Province, Mohamamd Ajami, said currently 60 thousand school and 2700 university students of refugees and foreign nationals are attending schools and universities in Khorasan Razavi enjoying similar condition with the Iranians in benefitting from educational facilities.
In the school for which a fund of 18.2 billion rials has been spent, 500 students at elementary and high schools are studying of whom 270 are Afghan.
