21 Jan 2015 - 16:02

TEHRAN Jan 21(Shana)--New phases of the giant South Pars gas filed are set to come on-stream to add 100 mcm/d to Iran’s gas production, a deputy petroleum minister said.
Emad Hosseini, deputy minister for engineering affairs, said seven phases of South Pars are expected to become operational altogether.
South Pars, which is jointly operated by Iran and Qatar, is a main supplier of gas to Iran’s trunklines.
South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
The gas field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
