Damascus, Jan 6, IRNA – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad here on Monday evening called for expansion of economic relations with Iran.
He made the remarks while receiving an Iranian delegation led by chairman of the committee in charge of promoting Iran-Syria economic relations Rostam Qassemi.
During the meeting, the Syrian president underlined the importance of bringing the economic, strategic and political views of Tehran and Damascus closer to each other in order to boost the amicable relations between the two nations.
He also stressed the need for removing obstacles impeding bilateral economic cooperation.
Qassemi, for his part, said Iran will stay by the Syrian nation in the war imposed on the country, voicing Iran's readiness to continue providing expert assistance to Syria to strengthen its economy. He then referred to investment projects as the best way to render such aid to Syria.
Qassemi is in Damascus to discuss issues pertaining to oil and gas, natural resources, industries, transportation, foodstuff, medicine and medical equipment with the Syrian officials.
He has so far met with the Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi.
