Drones crossing into Iranian airspace will be rendered harmless easily, Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen told Interfax news agency in an interview, according to the Iranian embassy’s official website.
When asked to comment on the report of Azerbaijani drones crossing into Iranian airspace, Mohsen Pak Ayeen said, in part, “Iran’s Armed Forces hold absolute control of the country’s airspace and we can easily render harmless those who will cross into our airspace, just as we did it with the American drones.”
Azerbaijan is using drones to carry out spying missions along its border with Iran, Iran’s Press TV reported on December 10.
Iranian military experts said Azerbaijan has been using Orbiter ultra-light drones assembled with Israeli help, as well as Hermes-450 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) “for control and surveillance missions.”
Israel has sold 10 Hermes-450 drones, manufactured by Elbit Systems, to Azerbaijan between 2009 and 2012, the agency said, adding that Israeli satellites “are closely cooperating with Azeri drones.”
We will remind that Iranian Foreign Ministry also responded to the report of Azerbaijani drones conducting spying missions along Iran border.
Any drone crossing into Iranian airspace will receive a sharp counterblow, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters on Wednesday, according to Iran’s news agency Mehr.
In response to a journalist’s question about Azerbaijani drones crossing into Iranian airspace, Mehmanparast said, in part, “To cross into our airspace, they should first of all be able to disorient our defense systems. Those who will cross into our airspace will receive a sharp counterblow, taking into consideration the capabilities of Iran’s Armed Forces in defending the borders of our country.”
According to Iranian parliament’s official website, commenting on the report that Azerbaijan is using drones to carry out spying missions along its border with Iran, Chairman of Iran's Majlis Defense Committee Esmail Kowsari said on Tuesday that “the Azerbaijani drones will suffer the same fate as the American ones.”
