BANDAR ABBAS, Dec. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s oldest telegraph tower known as ‘The British Telegraph Tower’ located in Bandar-e-Jask, Hormozgan, will be transformed into a military museum.
Abbas Norouzi, General Manager of cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism organization of Hormozgan, has submitted the proposal to the head of the organization Masoud Soltanifar, who welcomed it.


“This historical building has been nationally registered in 2006. Turning it into a military museum will help preserving it,” said Norouzi.


The British Telegraph Tower was originally constructed as the first commercial center of East India Company in Bandar-e-Jask, a port city situated on the Sea of Oman. Later, it was turned into a telegraph tower in 1907 and the British government stationed a small military guard in 1916 to protect the telegraph transmitter and facilities there.


In 1917, the British military command was transferred from a town on the Island of Qeshm to Bandar-e-Jask, and in 1930 the Britain's Telegraph Office was handed over to the Iranian government.


On the order of the head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Hormozgan, the cultural heritage experts are to review Norouzi’s proposal to turn Jask’s telegraph tower into a military museum.
