Iraqi speaker to seek Iran's stronger support for Baghdad

15 Dec 2014 - 17:38

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iraqi parliament said he will seek new ways to boost Tehran's support for Baghdad at his upcoming visit to Iran’s capital.
Salim al-Jabouri plans to start an official visit to Tehran Tuesday in which he will seek further support for Baghdad, Alsumaria News Agency reported.
The visit is following an invitation by al-Jabouri's Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.

Earlier, an adviser to al-Jabouri had announced that the Iraqi official will pay a visit to Tehran to meet with Iranian officials and explore avenues for expanding bilateral ties.

During this visit, he is slated to meet with the Iranian parliament speaker, the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, and the Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to discuss bilateral ties.

Iraq has been the scene of clashes between military forces and the ISIL terrorists since the foreign-backed militants attacked the Arab country from Syria in summer.

The Takfiri terrorists have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.
