Velayati: WAVE conference to have positive regional outcomes

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA – Qom Seminary conference against terrorism and Presidential Office WAVE Conference will have good and noticeable effects on the region, International Affairs Adviser of the Leader Ali Akbar Velayati said here Wednesday.
  “The Islamic Republic of Iran is opposed to all types of extremism and aggression and this important point has been highlighted during the course of the last week conference in Qom and the current conference in Tehran and the fact was proved to everyone,” said Velayati after his meeting with the former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of the Tehran WAVE Conference.
Velayati, who is also the head of the Strategic Research Center of the country’s Expediency Council, said in his meeting with the press after the meeting that the terrorism problem at Iran-Pakistan border region is the two country’s shared concern and they are none favoring tension on their borders.

He said that Mr. Zardari during his tenure heeded Pakistan’s duty of preserving the border security issue properly and expressed hope that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the current Pakistani government, too, will deal with the matter more effectively.

The former Iranian foreign minister said that Iran and Pakistan have shared interests in Afghanistan and the region, including in campaign against terrorism and Al Qaeda.

“The Pakistani prime minister is pleased with Iran’s contribution to the campaign against terrorism and extremism in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon,” he added.
