24 Nov 2014 - 16:22

As the time limit is approaching, there is a lot of speculation in the media around the possible extension of talks on Iranian nuclear issue.

VIENNA, November 24 (Sputnik) – The negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program have been extended until mid-December, a source in the Iranian delegation told Sputnik Monday.

The so-called P5+1 group of international mediators comprising representatives from Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, Germany, and Tehran officials arrived in Vienna on November 18, hoping to reach a deal guaranteeing a peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program by Monday. The deadline set during previous round of negotiations is now less than 12 hours away.

As the time limit is approaching, there is a lot of speculation in the media around the possible extension of talks. China’s Xinhua news agency reported earlier today that the deadline for consultations may be extended until July 1, 2015.

The group of six world powers wants Iran to scale back its nuclear program to make sure Tehran will not build an atomic weapon, while Iran assures the program’s purpose is absolutely peaceful.
