The deadline for a framework agreement on Iranian nuclear program was set for March 2015, China’s news agency cited a source as saying Monday.


MOSCOW, November 24 (Sputnik) – The deadline for negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program may be extended until July 1, 2015, China’s Xinhua news agency cited a source as saying Monday.

The deadline for a framework agreement was set for March 2015.

At the moment, the P5+1 group of international negotiators comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, Germany is holding talks with Tehran representatives in Vienna, trying to achieve a comprehensive deal, which would ensure a peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program. The deadline is now less than 12 hours away.

The P5+1 group of six world powers joined the diplomatic efforts in 2006 following Western countries’ suspicion that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon. Tehran, in turn, has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is peaceful and that the country would not give up on it. During talks in Geneva in November 2013, the international mediators agreed to reach a long-term comprehensive agreement with Tehran by July 2014, however due to a number of remaining differences in opinions, the deadline was postponed to November 24, 2014.
