P5+1 group ministers, EU coordinator start talks in Vienna

24 Nov 2014 - 14:40

The P5+1 group representatives and the EU chief coordinator have started talks on the Iranian nuclear program in Vienna.

VIENNA, November 24 (Sputnik) – The foreign ministers of the P5+1 group of nuclear negotiators and the European Union’s chief coordinator met in Vienna Monday to discuss whether the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran can produce a comprehensive accord.

Foreign ministers of Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and EU's chief coordinator Catherine Ashton are now discussing the progress made in the talks on Iran's nuclear program and the possibility of reaching a comprehensive agreement.

Iran's nuclear program has long been a matter of concern for the international community. The West suspects Iran of developing a nuclear weapon under the guise of a peaceful program, while Tehran argues that its nuclear development is aimed purely at meeting civilian needs.

The final round of Tehran's talks with the P5+1 group kicked off in Vienna last week. The deadline to reach an agreement guaranteeing the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program expires on Monday.
